Side Effects of Mmaking Reviews.

 So I have been releasing a game review every Saturday this year. I also started doing other ind of videos every Tuesday. This requires lots of game footage. Even if it isn't a review, you need something to go with the audio. This has lead to one unforeseen side effect. It is harder to just enjoy playing a game. 

 I can record on PC, Xbox 1, and PS4. So I find that if I am playing Switch, Wii U, PS3, or with a raspberry pi, that I think I am wasting time as I have no way to record any of this.  Same deal with playing any handheld system. I know this is an unhealthy attitude to have, as some of what I am playing isn't necessarily suited to being a review or other video, like the two modern Leisure Suit Larry games. However, it just feels like I am being inefficient, a feeling I hate. 

Its also lead me to think I shouldn't buy multiform games on Switch since if I do want to review it, I have no means of capturing the footage. This has already caused me some frustrations. As I bought "Chasm" on Switch before I started making reviews. I want to make a video about the problems of procedurally generated maps in the game, but can't as I can't record the small amount of footage I need to prove my point.

Mayflash F300

 So, I got a package in the mail containing a Mayflash F300. I didn't order it. It was addressed to me, but it had no explanation with it. Nor did I receive an e-mail explaining it. I am happy to receive free stuff, It is just a little weird to have it happen. I know that I don't have anywhere near enough eyes on me to make it worth sending me anything, still nice to have it happen. 

 So, I used this arcade stick for a bit, tested it with various consoles. and computers I have. Then I made a video about the experience. 

 

 

Over all, I would say it is a good product. Would consider buying other Mayflash products.

The "I don't care guy".

Ever meet the guy that is constantly shouting, how they don't care, and don't value what people have to say? It seems like for someone that "doesn't care", they spend a lot of time trying to convince others of that fact. It's almost like they care. Mostly because they do, and their insecurities are forcing them too.

You encounter this more with young people. Tend to be people that are adults, but only in a legal sense. They tend to come from bad situations, and their fake apathy is something they cling on to cope. With time they grow out it, or they end it all. Ending it all, is of course the ultimate expression of caring way too much.

You might ask why I am thinking about this. A fair question, I don't really know. It might be that I have not encountered one lately, almost like I am too old to have people young enough for this behavior around me. Feels good.

More Crackdown 3 and Far Cry 5

So I finished both of these games. While both were enjoyable experiences, they were also extremely short. The two combined took less than 20 hours to complete. Crackdown 3 being a worse offender taking only about 7 hours.

In both games, I was taking my time, trying to do all that could be done. I thought both games maps looked large enough that just exploration would take while. Sadly, this was not the case.

These are both AAA big releases. It seems to be a game that goes for 60$ should be a little longer.

Authority.

Never have I ever meet someone in a position of authority that was truly deserving of respect. It doesn't matter how small the power they have been given, the result is always the same. As a child, I saw this over and over, and at the time I didn't know why this was the case. As an adult I now know it is the weakness of the people that seek to have control.

It started with my father. He was a terrible man. He desired to control every action and thought of everyone around him. Self-centered, narcissistic, bullying, he has always been my example of what kind of man not to be. However, this was an early warning of what to expect of people that might hold authority over you, and sadly I have yet to be disappointed in this.

My second lesson in the nature of authority came from school. It was here I found that teacher are sad, bitter, self-hating people, that take every ounce of their misery out on the children in there care. I get that teaching is not the first choice for anyone, but there unfulfilled dreams aren't the fault of the children. It seems that at some point they start seeing hope and they feel they must crush it. As a child, I didn't know what I might do in the future, but I knew I couldn't become like these poor bastards.

Now as an adult you deal with less direct authority, but you still deal with it. The cop that got 34 "C-"s in high-school. The middle manager that knows he will never advance. The guy at the any government office. The moderator on any given internet forum.

Need some video editing software

I need some software to edit videos. I want to make something more than I have been making. Is there a decent free one?

I know you can get really good ones for 600$. I however, don't have the cash for that. So is there a good open source one? Can anyone give me some recommendations? Please, and thank you.

More Problems.

Nintendo won't help.

I need some repairs done to a Game Boy Color. Called up Nintendo, they will not help me. Called up various console repair places, they won't help either.

As long time readers will know, I am video game fan. Console, PC, handheld, it doesn't matter, I love it all. I prefer to play things on the original hardware whenever possible. Which is why I am still using my Game Boy Color.

Recently the "start" button started getting a bit less than reliable. It is to be expected after nearly 20 years, not angry about it. However, I am angry that Nintendo will not repair the problem. Further angry that you cannot back order a new system altogether. I would be happy to pay for either, but they will get me neither.

When I called Nintendo they told me "You should just upgrade to one of our new systems". I have 3ds, and I am very happy with it, but it doesn't fit old Game Boy Carts. Sure, a few games can be re-bought on Virtual Console, but I have a huge collection and would like to keep playing it.

Bad Luck

The following happened to me in the last week and a half. Stomach flu. Fired from seasonal job. Complete lack of money.

Admittedly all those items are directly related. Stomach flu on first day of job lead to me getting let go. And being let go is the reason for the lack of money.

Sorry this is short, but as you can see I have problems.

Business Idea*

Alright, Amazon sells things really cheap. However, some people can't use it for one reason or another. So someone should help them out.

All someone would need is an Amazon Prime account, so shipping is free. Also, a fairly high limit on the old credit card would help. Now you can order whatever anyone wants. Now you just need to find someone that wants something, order it for them, and charge them the price of the item plus 5-7%. Now they are getting what they want, likely cheaper than could be had elsewhere, and you are making a small profit.

Now one or two transactions like that won't be much money. So you need to go somewhere with lots of people that can't use Amazon normally. Either a bad neighborhood, or a retirement community would be good. Both would have lots of people that ignorant of computers, or don't have the internet, maybe don't have credit cards, or whatever else that might prevent them from shopping online.

So find a place, start taking orders, and then come back the next week with the merchandise. If in a bad neighborhood, get the money upfront. 

*I have never used Amazon. All of this is based of what I have heard about Amazon.

"To the Moon", a review.

"To the Moon" is an independent video game develuped and published by Freebird Games. It is available for PC, Mac, and Linux systems. Easiest way to get it on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/206440/

The game is short, and easy to play. It is presented in a 16 bit style, and should be easy for anyone to pick up and play. It will only take about 4 hours to play-through completely.

Where the game shines is in its story telling. Telling a beautiful and profoundly sad story. No details or spoilers will be given here, as I don't want to rob anyone of the experience to be had in this game.

While not hard, and rather linear, it is however interesting and enjoyable. It also had me in tears by the end. No game has ever had that effect on me before.

A goal that took over 10 year.

Finally did it. Found a copy of Dragon Warrior 7 for PS1. Been so very long since I started this search.

Feels good to reach a goal. Now if only I could find a copy of "The Misadventures of Tron Bonne".

Strange Thing Happened

I was at Target, doing my mother's shopping for her as she just had back surgery. As I go through the store, I notice a guy following me, and staring me down. The guy doing it is about my age, average build, nothing really distinctive about him. So after several he does this on several different aisle I ask him "You need something buddy?". He looks at me with obvious anger and says "You don't even remember me!". Look him over, "There a reason I should?". Now is when the story get a little strange as he claims that I "assaulted" him in "computer class". This is strange as last time I was in a "computer class" was close to three decades ago in high school. He goes on to say he had to transfer schools over what happened, and demands I apologize for ruining him life. Instead, I tell tell to "Grow up, fuck off, and don't bother me. Or just the last two".

That happened earlier this week. I don't think the guy was crazy. As I have thought about it, and I think I know the indecent he was referring too. It was during my freshman year, and yes was in a "computer class". It was early in the school year, either September of early October, and another student was making a great deal of noise. I asked him (nicely) to please quiet down. He got up, shoved me and said "make me". I didn't, I asked him agian to to lower his volume, so he pushed me again. At that point I hit him, and again, and then slammed him medium hard in to the ground. The teacher broke it up. He tried to get her to believe I was in the wrong, she pointed out that he had attacked first, and that I had only defended myself. He went back to his seat in tears. The teacher kept me with her, I assumed to yell at me, but was wrong. She told me he got what deserved, and said it was smart that I hadn't hit him in the face. This was a very minor event to me, and till this week hadn't thought about it at all. Should be noted, that she was the first teacher I ever had any respect for.

I am not sure why it stuck with this other guy so much. I think perhaps it was his first and maybe only experience with violence. I don't know if I should envy or pity that. Well sorry this isn't funny, but I felt the need to share it somewhere, and this is my outlet.

Top 5 Best Fast Food Items.

Well last week we did the worst, so now here is the best.

5. In-N-Out's Double Double. This would be higher, but it is regional, only on the west coast (and parts of Nevada and Arizona). Nothing fancy here, just your basic burger, but very well made. They claim it is all fresh, and it does taste as if that is true.

4. Del Taco's Macho Combo Burrito. This comes in several variations. They are all decent. This is mostly here because it is a good value.

3. Jack in the Box's Sourdough Jack. Tomatoes, bacon, and Swiss cheese on sourdough bread. Tasty, and a bit different from your average burger.

2. Popeye's Fried Chicken. Of the chain chicken you can get this is the best. The only thing better would be making it yourself.

1. Carl's Jr's Prime Rib burger. While I doubt it was really "prime rib" on it, it was tasty. With grilled onions, horseradish, Swiss cheese, on a Ciabatta roll. They last made it in 2008, and I honestly miss it.
