Well last week we did the worst, so now here is the best.

5. In-N-Out's Double Double. This would be higher, but it is regional, only on the west coast (and parts of Nevada and Arizona). Nothing fancy here, just your basic burger, but very well made. They claim it is all fresh, and it does taste as if that is true.

4. Del Taco's Macho Combo Burrito. This comes in several variations. They are all decent. This is mostly here because it is a good value.

3. Jack in the Box's Sourdough Jack. Tomatoes, bacon, and Swiss cheese on sourdough bread. Tasty, and a bit different from your average burger.

2. Popeye's Fried Chicken. Of the chain chicken you can get this is the best. The only thing better would be making it yourself.

1. Carl's Jr's Prime Rib burger. While I doubt it was really "prime rib" on it, it was tasty. With grilled onions, horseradish, Swiss cheese, on a Ciabatta roll. They last made it in 2008, and I honestly miss it.

Fast food is almost never great. However some of it is far worse than others.


5. McDonald's Filet o Fish. Fish as fast food is not a great idea.

Grey fist and and tons of mayo.

4. Carl's Jr's Turkey Burgers. There are several version of this, all of them are dry, bland, and forgettable.

It like a real burger, without all the good parts.

3. Papa John's Frito Chili Pizza. Don't play games with pizza.

If you hate both yourself and pizza, order this.

2. Taco Bell's Beefy Crunch Burrito. Nasty fake cheese, overly salty chips. Taco Bell has a lot of gross items, but this is stands out even their.

It is like party in your mouth, if everyone had diarrhea.

1. McDonald's McRib. All the parts of the pig not good enough for bargain brand hotdogs.

I got nothing, just look at it.

Things I miss.

Well I miss them, maybe you do too.

Arcades. Paying quarters to play some games.

When kids could get in fights at school. Now there is this "zero tolerance" bullshit. Sometime kids need to "work things out" between themselves.

Every woman I have ever shared an evening with.

The word "retard". For some reason this word is treated as offensive. Why? Its a medical term. Does "pregnant" need to go on the list too?

Square and Enix being two separate companies. Seems like the games were better back then. Well... the Enix franchises are about the same really (amazing). The Square side of things have been on a rather steady decline.

The Prime Rib burger. It was around in 2008, it was delicious. In the 6 years since it has never been heard from again. Carl's Jr, you are starting to piss me off.

I miss when Warcraft was a RTS (real time strategy) game. Have to go back to the first two games in the series. They were good game, but certainly show their age at this point. There was a third game, but it was more RPG(role play game)  than RTS. The third one had some very superficial RTS dressing on it, but that really wasn't enough. Then World of Warcraft came out, and it is a big massively multiplayer RPG mess. Been 10 years since a new game, seems like a good time for one.

Having new and original ideas for this blog. Really miss that.

More Restaurant "Fun"

Restaurants employees can't seem to keep their stories straight. If you are going to tell a customer "no", and then give a reason, keep that reason straight. Nothing is worse than being caught in a lie, least of all by someone that will/might give you money.

Polly's Pies sent out a flyer advertising, among other things, strawberry rhubarb pies being on sale. That is a tasty pie, so seeing it on sale is nice. However, when going into get the pie things went poorly. The cashier says "Were all out, um... we don't make that pie any more, and ah that sale ended like ah um a week a go", sadly that is an exact quote. Well which is it? Are they sold out, or do they not make it anymore? The two are more than somewhat mutually exclusive. The reality it, this person didn't want to go get the pie. Normally I like apathy in a person, but this time it seems to be working against me.

With the last month or so Carl's Jr started selling a cod sandwich. Not my kind of sandwich, but a person I was eating with wanted one. The cashier didn't seem to understand what the cod sandwich was, much less that they are being sold at this restaurant. They sandwich which was ultimately made it to the table was not cod, not grilled, and from what I am  told not very good. Shouldn't the people that work at a restaurant know what is on the menu? Or at least speak English? Seems both were problems on that day.

When did not giving a shit about your job become alright? When did everyone just give up? Well it seems we have started the down a bad path, and there is no turning back. Worst part is, I got no pie.

Striving For Mediocre

Seems like the goal has changed. It is as if no one cares about being the best anymore. Food is getting worse, movies have nothing to say, and television after only the lowest common denominator. It is no longer a matter of trying to be the best, it is instead a quest not to be the worst.

McDonald's is not bad. It is not great either. It is edible, that is about all you can say. So why is there a trend of other fast food restaurants trying to emulate the food of McDonald's? Why is everyone making a version of the Big Mack? Jack in the Box has the Bonus Jack, Burger King has the Big King, Carl's Jr (Hardee's) has the Big Carl. The Big Mack is edible, but it is hardly great. It might only be fast food, but they could do better. Carl's Jr has made some great food in the past, the Prime Rib Burger and Steakhouse Burger come to mind, neither of which they make anymore. 

Television has gotten worse. The fact anyone knows who the person pictured above is, is proof television television is doing harm. How can "Honey Boo Boo" do better in terms of ratings than "30 Rock". "30 Rock" is a consistently well written and funny show. "Honey Boo Boo" is  very ugly white trash family eating horrid food and reinforcing stereotypes. When did quality stop mattering? When did shit become the gold standard? 

Movies. Sure it is January, and movies are usually weak this time of year. However that is no excuse for Hansel and Gretel being released. How did this happen? Some one had to first think this was a good idea, present it to their boss, who would then need to green light this idea. A writer then has to right it, and actors have to agree to be in it. How does all of this happen for an idea this bad?

So to sum up, the world is getting worse. Food is getting bland, TV is making you less intelligent, movies... dear god... When did being the best stop being the goal?

Thanksgiving Plans

Today, lets get a little personal. Let all my reader(s) in on what I do for Thanksgiving. It is not really what most people do, but it is what I have come to do.

Well I don't do much. I see no family. I eat no turkey. No interest is paid to any parade, or sporting event. Most things that are generally associated with the holiday are entirely devoid of my Thanksgiving. It is not to say that I have no traditions, they just are just not what other people do.

What I do is enjoy a few meals out. I go to Carl's Jr, every year since I was 16. I drive through alone, and eat in my vehicle.

Knowing this is the "official" start of the Christmas season I watch the only Christmas movie I approve of: "The Ref" and "Bad Santa". Always hoping for anther anti-Christmas movie to come along, seem to be many years between their releases.

 This is how my Thanksgiving goes. It is the same every year. That is a little look into my world.
