Side Effects of Mmaking Reviews.

So I have been releasing a game review every Saturday this year. I also started doing other ind of videos every Tuesday. This requires lots of game footage. Even if it isn't a review, you need something to go with the audio. This has lead to one unforeseen side effect. It is harder to just enjoy playing a game.

I can record on PC, Xbox 1, and PS4. So I find that if I am playing Switch, Wii U, PS3, or with a raspberry pi, that I think I am wasting time as I have no way to record any of this.  Same deal with playing any handheld system. I know this is an unhealthy attitude to have, as some of what I am playing isn't necessarily suited to being a review or other video, like the two modern Leisure Suit Larry games. However, it just feels like I am being inefficient, a feeling I hate.

Its also lead me to think I shouldn't buy multiform games on Switch since if I do want to review it, I have no means of capturing the footage. This has already caused me some frustrations. As I bought "Chasm" on Switch before I started making reviews. I want to make a video about the problems of procedurally generated maps in the game, but can't as I can't record the small amount of footage I need to prove my point.

Best Buy

Best Buy is an electronics, appliance, and entertainment media  store. Kind of like Circuit City, but still in business (somehow). Normally not a bad store, but a couple weeks ago they really dropped the ball.

Best Buy had a sale where first party Nintendo titles for the 3ds were "buy one get one". This deal, because of their current stock mod, meant the sale applied to eight games. The problem being that no Best Buy in my area had any two of the eight games. So I wasted a day going to six different Best Buy stores, only to be unable to take advantage of this sale due completely to the lack of merchandise in stock.

Seems that if there is a sale happening, there should be at least SOME of what is on sale in stock. It was not an issue of them getting sold out early either, as I was at the first of the six stores when they opened. None of the other six locations seemed overly busy either. So it seems this sale was setup entirely to be a tease.

Never Own a Truck.

You are just asking for bullshit when you own a truck. People expect you to do things. While at the same time there are things you can never do when you own a truck. Sometimes the same people that want to use you for your truck, are also pissed that you drive a truck. It is all a big bullshit headache, and one you don't want to ever deal with.

I wish my truck was this new or nice. Mine is old and not this make or model.

Helping people move. When you own a truck you are expected to help people move. Sometimes you might get paid, but even when you do the job is not worth the pay. Most of the time your lucky if you break even on the gas. This is the biggest burden of owning a truck, having to give up your weekends in exchange for a sore body and a lack of free time.

Related to the hassle of helping people move, is helping people haul things. It might be a large item from a store being taken back to there home, or it could be unwanted items being taken to the landfill. Either way it is going in your truck and you need to waste your time and gas to get rid of it. This often comes with the person that asked for your help being angry that you don't have rope with you. A truck cab is small, you can't carry extras with you at all times. Not that they care, they want free help with extras included.

Of course something you just can't do in a truck. You can't take a nap in a truck, at least not in the majority of them. Truck cabs are small, and you can't stretch out, nor can you recline the back of your seat, generally. So you are upright, and rather cramped, this is uncomfortable and this gets old fast. Anytime you have to wait in your truck for anything you find yourself wishing you could recline. Comfort is only one problem with a tiny truck cad...

The much worse problem is you can't have sex in a truck. There simply isn't room for the act. Maybe if both people were very small, but even then it would be incredibly awkward. Even road head is likely out of the question in most trucks. Your with a woman, it is going well, to bad, can't take it any further without finding a place. You can pick her up in your truck, but you won't get her off in it.

The one nice thing about having a truck is you never have to drive your group of friends. Of course this will piss of members of that group. Never mind that you spend every weekend help them move there shit from here to there. It is suddenly a real issue that they own a 4 seat vehicle and you don't. The restaurant is only three blocks away not across town, and it is only one trip in your car, not 4 loads of furniture in a truck across town. If they are going to bitch you can't drive the group, then they need to start coughing up more cash when they need help in the form of a truck.

So truck ownership, don't do it. Get yourself a two door car. That way no one will ever ask you for anything. While technically it has four seats, they are too small and cramped for anyone to ever want to ride in them.

Internet Reviewers.

The internet allows anyone to find a place to express their opinions on any topic. Some people use this as a tool to become reviewers and critics of different forms of media. These can come in many forms, a blog (not unlike this one), a talking head video, or something far more complex. However, there is a subset of reviewers and critics that tend to half-ass it a bit.

The subset I refer to are the ones that only talk about things which they know are bad going in. They do he worst movies, the worst games, books, television, and so forth. This is lazy, it is easy to take something that is known to be horrid, and say why. It is much harder on the other hand to take an unknown item and then give us a review. If you always review the bottom 10%, half your work is already done for you.

I know many of these kind of reviewers can be successful in what they do. I bare no ill will toward them. It would just be nice if they would try a little harder, and throw a curve once in a while.

Steam.

I think it is safe to assume most of the people reading this either use or have knowledge of "Steam". That wonderful direct to drive service that sell software cheap. I just formatted my computer and now have to download everything on my Steam account again.

It is a problem to re-download  all your stuff again, you can uninstall and re-download as much as you like. However, there is one problem, that Steam only seems to allow you to go at a little better than 2 megs a second. That might not sound bad, but when you have 200 gigs of stuff to download it becomes more of a problem. I am not talking abut this to brag, I just wish Steam could upload just a little faster.

Don't get me wrong, I love Steam, at it seems to have the fewest problems of any direct to drive service. I can't imagine getting along without it.
